The Day At Levels

Mixed Day at Road Race Champs:

The duel for the Production Superbike Championship took another turn today, at round four of the Motorcycle Trader & News Road Race Championships at Levels Raceway just outside Timaru.

One complete round of races was held for each class.

The Production Superbike race was run in two parts, after the race was stopped due to an accident, that saw local rider, Jon Lowther and his Yamaha R1, hit the tyres wall opposite the start/ finish line and grind to a halt.

Whakatane’s Tony Rees (Yamaha R1) had been battling with points leader Aucklander Andrew Stroud (Suzuki GSXR1000), when the red came out.

The battle continued in part two, until Stroud’s machine seemed to loose power and stopped. Leaving the way clear for Rees to take the win.

\"It was just a flat battery,\" said Stroud on returning to the pits.

The 600 Sports Production class also had an upset, when local rider Brendon Gare crashed his Pirelli Suzuki GSXR600, while leading the race and the championship, giving the lead back to arch rival Craig Shirriffs, also on a Suzuki.
