The weekend of January 24-26, 2003 will see the running of the 42nd New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at the legionary Woodville motocross track.

The event is sponsored this year for the first time by New Zealand Honda importers, Blue Wing Honda.

As we went to press the organisers had entries from over 500 Senior and Junior riders, not counting the mini riders who will race on Saturday.

The entry list is star studded, including the 1996 World 500cc Motocross Champion, New Plymouth’s Shayne King, who recently won both the 250cc and Open New Zealand Motocross Championship, on his pair of Hondas. His two brothers join Shayne, Darryll from Hamilton, current No2 in the National 250cc class, riding a Yamaha and Damien from Cambridge, current No2 in the 125cc class and No3 in the open class, on another Honda. They will be joined by Scottish rider, Barry Morris on his Yamaha YZ125.

This year’s track has again been immaculately prepared by the club, who has been watering for the last week. After a 20 year absence, the famous Gibbes Drop returns for this year’s Grand Prix. The club, in an endeavor to improve the track`s racing surface, has cultivated the whole track, down to a depth of 300 millimeters.

On Sunday January 26 WOODVILLE will be the place to be.
