Tokoroa SuperCross:

Fans of the red riders would have been very happy with the Tokoroa National Supercross held January 18 at Tokoroa with Honda riders dominating both premier classes.

In the 250cc/Open class Shayne King as expected ran away with three wins from three to further his lead in the series after three of four rounds. Shayne opted to ride the CRF 450, which he piloted around the course in dominating fashion. The hard working Mason Philips, riding a Honda CR 250, took second place in the 250cc with some strong rides leaving Damien King to take 3rd, also on a Honda.

The 125 battle was fierce. Mason Philips took race wins in both opening motos with strong starts on his CR 125, but then while leading race three, tragedy struck when the handlebars came loose leading up the double jump. Philips had to throw the bike away as he lost all control. Luckily no damage to the body was sustained, but the race was over for Philips. This left the door open for a hard charging Hayden McKay to take the final race win and 2nd overall for the night. Three consistent placing by Damien King earned him the top 125cc spot for the night to back up the 3rd placing on the 250.

In the inaugural Manufacturers Challenge where each major brand clashed, Honda again emerged on 20 points top after 8 intense laps.

When it came time for the clash of the Islands, it was the North who took the glory over their Southern cousins with a comprehensive win.

Marketed as huge air with no fear the Freestyle Motocross competition grabbed the attention of all the 3000 plus strong crowd. Nick Franklin pulled out a huge 9 O’clock as part of the demo. Luke Price from Tauranga was part of the FMX demo trio with a big Hart attack as his main move with Jarin Henricksen from Palmerton North going hard with a big Shoalin.
