Supercross Champs Move to Tokoroa

Saturday January 18 will see the National Supercross Championships move to Tokoroa South Waikato, the home of Supercross.

After two rounds several of the Championships have very definite leaders. As many of the top riders didn’t travel to round one in Motueka and the likes of defending 250cc Champion Darryll King opting to sit round two out the points are strongly in favour of the riders who competed in both rounds.

Current 250cc National Motocross Champion, New Plymouth’s Shayne King, has a commanding lead in the 250cc class, on his Honda, with 114 points to Te Puke rider Mason Phillip’s (Honda) 32 points, with Te Awamutu’s Mark Penny (Suzuki) in third, just one point behind on 76 points.

Round three will see the battle for the minor placings heat up with the inclusion of Cambridge’s Damien King (Honda) and Auckland’s Nigel Smith (Yamaha).

The 125cc class also has a clear leader in young Te Puke rider Mason Phillips (Honda) on 109 points, with Christchurch brothers Hayden (KTM) McKay on 82 points and Quinton (Yamaha) on 78 respectively.

The junior classes are similar to the seniors with Hamilton’s Jesse Wiki (Honda) a clear leader in the 15-16 Years 125cc class on 117 points and Morrinsville’s Nathan Loveridge (Suzuki) leading the 13-16 years 85cc class on 112 points.

Nelson’s Kurtis Bandy (Yamaha) leads the 12-14 years 125cc on 109 points from Whitianga’s William Saywell (Suzuki) on 101.

The 11-12years 85cc class is wide open, with none of those who featured in Nelson, travelling to round two in Wanganui.

Along with some top Supercross Action the crowd will be treated to some spectacular freestyle motocross from the likes of local. Tokoroa’s Nick Franklin and Tauranga’s Luke Price.

Gates open for public at 3.30 pm and racing starts at 6.30pm with the Freestyle demonstration.
