Reigning New Zealand 250cc Supercross Champion, Hamilton’s Darryll King, heads the points standings after Round One of the New Zealand Supercross Championships, held at Motueka near Nelson on Sunday Jan 4.

King won the day on his Yamaha YZ450F, with a second place and two race wins, over brother Shayne, on his Honda CR450F, to head the field in the premier 250cc class at the end of the round.

\"This is one of the best Supercross tracks in the country and over the years the battles between Josh Coppins, Shayne and myself have been very intense. The racing this year between Shayne and myself was awesome, we were never more than a few metres apart in each of the races. \" Said King at the end of the day.

The 125cc class provided equally close racing, with Tauranga\'s Mason Phillips on a Honda CR125 winning the first two races and coming home third in the final moto after a ride from dead last.

Scott Columb, riding a Suzuki RM125, won race three and is one point behind Phillips heading into round two, this weekend at the NEW VENUE of Cook’s Gardens in Wanganui, right beside the legendary Cemetery Road Race circuit which celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary on Boxing Day.
