Brothers The Difference In Trans Tasman Challenge.

Just like the Bledisloe Cup, several sets of brothers will take part in this weekend’s Oceania Motocross at Upper Hutt.

Over the years, the likes of the Meads brothers and the Wetton brothers were critical in New Zealand’s teams when they took on the Australians. This weekend, we will see no fewer than four sets of brother join forces, in the twenty five member strong New Zealand team to take on Australia for the Oceania Motocross Championship.

These include the three King brothers originally from New Plymouth, the Smiths from Auckland, the McKays from Christchurch and the Fogartys from Gisborne.

Several of the sets of brothers have also done well outside New Zealand. The Kings for example. Shayne was 1996 500cc World Motocross Champion, Darryll held the No 2 plate in the 500cc world Motocross Championship for several years during the 1990s, while youngest brother Damien also featured on the 500cc World Motocross scene. All three brothers have all done well in Australian Motocross Championships in recent years.

While the Smith brother have also done well in Australian Motocross Championships in recent years.

With this sort of depth the New Zealand Team must go into Sunday’s event at the Gillies and Mark Motocross Park at Riverstone Terraces, just south of Upper Hutt favorites.
