The TAB will be taking bets on the outcome of the Oceania Motocross to be held this weekend at Upper Hutt. This is the first time a motorcycling event has been open for TAB betting in New Zealand.

In the past the TAB has run betting on Superbikes, which was fine while the likes of Aaron Slight and Simon Crafar were involved, but today Superbike events in Czheckoslovakia do not mean as much to the Kiwi public.

MNZs CEO Trevor Gill was enthusiastic about the innovation. \"This event at the weekend is Australia versus New Zealand on our soil, that\'s exciting on its own but the addition of being able to have a punt adds a new dimension to the sport. A few months ago I was negotiating with the TAB to run betting on the Motocross Des Nations and I think they were going to, had the event gone ahead with a NZ team,\" said Gill from Huntly

\"Sports betting is an integral part of the sports industry now, it can only improve our revenue and help in the marketing of the sport. Betting opens on Thursday and I will be amongst the first group to place my bet. which should please the TAB because they get a new customer,\" Gill add
