It is reported that Rossi has been invited to test a BAR F1 car this year.
One Formula 1 web site quotes the F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone as saying "F1 needs people like Rossi".
Another website quotes John Surtees, one of the few who has made the successful transition from bikes to cars as saying "He feels Rossi has the talent to drive an F1 car".
Surtees is the only man to win both car and motorcycle world titles.
