August 25th saw the second round of the Mainland MX take place in Oamaru.

The Oamaru Club, only just formed put on an outstanding meeting with a demanding track that put competitors to test all day long. In comparison to the 1st round`s open and flowing course, Oamaru's venue was tighter and choppier. I'm told this track has been in existence for some time, but only brought back to life recently. Near perfect weather topped off the days racing giving excellent conditions.

Senior 125 had Brad Norton continue his clean sweep of this class with a further 3 1st placings giving him a commanding lead over Andrew Richardt in 2nd, followed by Paul Gow 3rd. Justin McDonald also showing his talent and transition to Seniors paying dividends, with a string of 2nd's for the day with some very close racing between the youngster and Norton.

2nd Andrew Richardt RM125
3rd Paul Gow KX125

Rumour has Brad Thomas, former New Zealand 125 Champion changing from 250's back to riding an 03 KX125 also Open MX campaigner, Joe Vavasour taking up a 2nd class and riding another hand built Italian bike, TM125. The entry of these two pilots back into the South's 125 class is certainly going to make this class one of the toughest battles in the field.

Senior 250 had Mark Thompson continue his recent strong form with Mike Patterson keeping him under pressure, both guys putting on a fine display of racing in this class.

2nd Mike Patterson CR250
3rd Brad Norton KX250

Open MX saw Joe Vavasour on the VOR MX450 demonstrate total dominance not only taking three 1st places by some margin but also having been split started with the 250's hunting this class down and reaching up to 5th position at the close of the race.

2nd Mark Meadows YZ426F
3rd John Ross YZ426F

Pro class action had Mark Thompson give an outstanding ride in this to take 1st followed by Mike Patterson and then Joe Vavasour. A strong ride from young Justin McDonald giving him 4th for the day.

Next round moves back to North Canterbury on September 15th at Greta Valley.
