Motocross World Championship - Case of Joshua Coppins

Championnat du Monde de Motocross - Cas de Joshua Coppins

The International Disciplinary Court, composed of Messrs. Alexander Gontard (President), Frantisek Schulmann and Santiago Puig y Viladomiu, convened today at the FIM headquarters in Mies, Switzerland, in a public hearing in order to judge the case of New Zealander rider Joshua Coppins, who was submitted to an anti-doping control at the Austrian round of the Motocross World Championship held in Kärntenring on June 9 last, and whose sample was found not in accordance with the rules of the FIM Anti-Doping Code (see Press Release of July 5, last).

The CDI took the following decisions:

- Mr Coppins is excluded from the results of the Austrian Grand Prix held in Kärntenring on June 9, 2002.
The FIM Championship points, prizes, medals and trophies are withdrawn.
- Mr Coppins is suspended for a period of 3 months from all activities under FIM control.
This suspension is conditionally deferred for a period of 1 year.
- Mr Coppins must pay a fine of US $ 5'000.
- The costs of the hearing are to be borne by Mr Coppins.

The full decision will be notified later.
An appeal against this decision may be lodged to the International Tribunal of Appeal (TIA) within 10 days as from the receipt of the official notification.

The classification of the 250cc Motocross World Championship has been adapted accordingly (see below).
