From the Desk of Trevor M Gill, the MNZ CEO:

Newsletter number four.
This covers the week ending 02 August.

What has been happening?

www.motorcyclingnz.co.nz Obviously you are a user of our site. There were almost 24,000 views last month mainly from New Zealand. As well as New Zealand there were visitors from 26 other countries like Tanzania (2) and the Ascension Islands. It is pleasing that the average daily view rate has more than doubled since March this year.

If you have any suggestion as to how we can make this site even better we would like to hear from you. You are the customer and we want to know what you want.

Teams on International Duty:
MNZ has entered teams in the Trial Des Nations in Portugal in September.John Ravenscroft will be the Manager of the team This team has been announced, see press releases on this site. We have also entered a team in the Motocross Des Nations to be held in California on 29 September. There is a slight delay in naming the team but Mike McLeod will manage it.

Additionally, a group is attending the FIM Junior Motocross Cup to be held in Moggers, Austria on 25 August 2002. This is not an official MNZ team but it travels with our support and best wishes. The individuals have raised all of the funds by themselves. The names of the NZ riders are:
Tim Curr
Seadon Baker
Jonathon Llewellen
Jake Boyd
Jesse Wiki
Blake Gillard

Board/ Commissioner Meeting:
The Board and Commissioners will be having a 2 day meeting in Auckland on the 14 and 15 September. The first day will be Commissioners and the Board; the second day will be a Board meeting. A large part of the meeting will focus on the strategic direction of MNZ. Our current mission statement is MNZ is dedicated to advancing and protecting motorcycling and the interests of Motorcyclists in New Zealand. Strategic planning starts by looking at the organisational mission.

However, strategic planning is not just something that the Board and Commissioners do once a year. We need everyone to be thinking strategically the sport.

Oceania:
I got a bit ahead of myself last week. The Oceania meeting is this weekend. I will be able to report on it next time I write.

Club Spotlight:
we are pleased to welcome back the Pukekohe Club, they have rejoined MNZ after a lay off. I attended one of their committee meetings a couple of weeks ago; I was impressed with their planning and vision. They have a great track near Harrisville with good commercial support from Yamaha. I want to spotlight a club each week but if there are no takers I will drop the idea. Just email the brief details to -Trevor Gill:

NZRFU:
The repercussions of the Rugby WorldCup fallout provide a poignant reminder to sport and how it needs to operate in the current environment. There are lessons to be learned about transparency and accountability and most importantly international relationships.

Until next time
Enjoy your sport
