From the Desk of the MNZ CEO:

This is the first of my weekly newsletters. Each week I am going to put together a one pager that will highlight interesting things from the week gone and look ahead to the next week and look at current issues. This is not a news page; it is more about communicating with MNZ's customers- the riders and clubs.

What has been happened?

Last Sunday (30 June) the new Board met for the first time. The Board is Errol Conaghan (President), Kevin Grey and Neil Boyd. The next meeting is scheduled for 14/15 September.

I have been meeting the Commissioners individually. These meetings focus mainly on the employment relationship. Yes I did say employment and no they are not getting paid. In every way other than remuneration the Commissioners are employees of MNZ. We have a professional corporate structure and the Commissioners report to the CEO.

Who are the Commissioners?
The handbook is a bit behind so here is the current list:
Stewards - Andrew Roigard
Senior Motocross - Mike McLeod
Junior/Mini Motocross - Guy Merewether
Road Race - Trevor Heaphy
Speedway - Sandra Perry
Trail Ride - John Gibbons
Cross-country - Lyn Youren
Enduro - Sean Clarke
Trials - John Ravenscroft
Safety - Mark Waters

I haven't had too much to do with the Clubs as yet but I intend to. Congratulations to the Huntly Club for a great job with the Motocross. It was the first event I have attended, and the most mud I have ever seen.

SPARC- a few weeks ago I went to the launch of SPARC (Sport and Recreation Commission). This is a combination of the former Hillary Commission and The Sports Foundation. The idea is that there is now one agency for sport that covers elite down to the grassroots level. Initially not much will change but looking in to 2003 there will be changes to the way they fund things.

This Week:

I am looking forward to the launch of our High Performance Programme on Tuesday and Wednesday 9 and 10 July in Taupo.Over 30 riders are attending the first session. There will be sessions on fitness, sponsorship, nutrition as well as the technical stuff. After the two days the squad will be trimmed to an elite coaching squad for further development. Its exciting stuff, all part of MNZ showing that it is a high performance organisation

Issues:

Incorporation. This issue is very important for our clubs. The Companies Office has listed 2,714 incorporated societies who are about to be struck off the register for not filing their annual financial statements. If a club is struck off it is no longer a legal entity and the individuals in the club are personally liable both legally and financially because the legal entity does not exist. We do have clubs on the list, I have written to them.

It is important that all clubs keep up to date with their registration and that they have a current constitution. I will be posting a sample constitution on the MNZ website in the next few days.

Have a good week
