Kiwi Darryl Atkins qualified in 27th position in the World MX GP 250 Class at the Uddevalla circuit, Sweden.

After a bad start he began to pick his way through the pack in front of the huge crowd. As he went to pass another rider through a rhythm section on the circuit, Atkins caught his foot, pulling a ligament and was forced to retire from the race.

A later analysis showed the injury was minor and the likeable Kiwi will be back in action at Desert Martin in two weeks.

"It was a really small mistake and I just caught my foot wrong, but the pain was so sharp I just couldn’t carry on, again I was closing in on the point scoring positions, so I am disappointed with the day. I have been training hard and seem to be getting better at qualifying now." said Atkins after Sundays Final.

The team who is backed by Bridgwater based company H M Plant, one of the UKs leading suppliers of heavy machinery, will be racing again in two weeks at round four of the British Championship at the superb circuit of Desert Martin in Northern Ireland.
