Josh in Germany:

Motocross ace Josh Coppins took second place in today’s national event in Germany.

The expat Kiwi cruised to an easy victory in the final of three races on his Vismara Honda CR250R at Aichwald in the south-west, shutting down a number of grand prix regulars and other international names.

It was enough to wrap up yet another podium placing against the larger 500 class four-stroke bikes, the overall victory going to his teammate Pit Beirer riding a CR450 on home soil.

“Mainly today was about training for me,” said 25-year-old Coppins, New Zealand’s top racer.

“I worked on a few things like my starts … maybe too well because in the first race I got the holeshot then crashed at the first corner!”

Coppins rejoined the event in 40th spot and worked his way to fifth by the chequered flag.

Race two saw a clash of bikes with Beirer before Coppins slotted into third spot, while his third straight holeshot was enough to lead Beirer all the way in moto three.

The Vismara Honda team now prepares to head east to Bulgaria for next weekend’s seventh round of the world champs, where Coppins is second in the glamour 250 class, ahead of Beirer and chasing reigning champion Mickael Pichon.

The following weekend Coppins lines up the red and green Honda at Foxhill national in England.

Overall Points:
1. Beirer 57
2. Coppins 46
3. Eckenbach 38
4. Aubert 34
5. Cepelac 33
