New Zealand Enduro Champion Paul Whibley has continued his excellent run of results with a win in the prestigious Gas GAS Australian Four Day Enduro held at Harvey, near Perth.

Riding a Husqvarna TE570, Whibley won the 600 cc four-stroke class ahead of a strong field of riders from around Australia.

The Four Day event is regarded as the toughest enduro competition there is - with a high attrition rate due to fatigue and breakages. Over 220 riders entered the event this year with teams from each state of Australia plus a NZ team. Unfortunately, a DNF finish for NZ rider Steven Bird on Day One saw the end of our chances of winning the teams title.

Terrain was as varied as previous events with a mixture of natural jarrah forest and hilly pine plantations covering ground that ranged from sand to rock. The event itself includes a mixture of both traditional timed enduro loops and special motocross style sections - the end result being that class winners have to be able to ride quickly in any conditions.

Whibley finished Day One in second place but by the end of Day Three had taken the lead and finished clearly ahead at end of the event.

He returns to New Zealand shortly to defend his national title.
