Rnd 3 Suzuki Central Series

Posted: Mon 20 May 2002

Round 3 of the Suzuki Enduro Series attracted 59 Enduro riders and 14 trail riders to the New Brunswick Hall, just north-west of Wanganui. While down on numbers compared to the earlier rounds of the series, this was still a respectable turn-out compared with recent years (e.g. 40 Enduro riders in 2001).

The day was a little overcast and quite cool but the rain stayed away until everyone was home. The trail time was very generous for all but the 2nd to last section (40 km) which was set at an 60 km/h average. This proved more then most could manage, with all but Steven Bird (WR250F) and Phil Skinner (KTM400) losing time.

On the other hand there were only 5 DNF\'s for the day and none of these came about through houring out. More importantly, everyone who finished came in absolutely rapt with the ride and eagerly looking forward to the next one.

It is worth noting the catchment area for this event. There were riders from Waitemata, Gisborne, Taranaki, and Wellington. There were also five women competing in the ladies class (who all finished).
