Ian Lougher grabbed the lead from the start of the CP Hire 1000cc Production Race.
At the roundabout it was David Jefferies, Bruce Anstey, McFarland, Duffus, Farquhar and Archibald. Lougher was at the back of the 1st group, possibly a bad choice of tyres .
Jefferies was still in the lead at the Metropole, Alan Jackson leading the 2nd group .
At the end of the lap Jefferies was just ahead of Anstey.
When they reached the roundabout again the positions were much the same, Jefferies was out on wets while Anstey was on cut slicks .

When they reached the Metropole it was Anstey who was the new leader, just. he was followed by Jefferies, Jess and Britton.

When they got back to the pits at the end of the 2nd lap Jefferies was back in the lead .
At the approach to the university, Anstey was back with a good lead over Jefferies, however Jefferies pulled most of it back at the roundabout .

Anstey had a 100 metre lead at the Metropole over Jefferies, his choice of tyre paying off . Jess was in 3rd and then a gap before Farquhar appeared.
Speed trap times were Anstey 175 mph, Frost 178 mph and Jefferies 175 mph.

At Ballysally on the 4th lap it was Anstey who appeared first and well in the lead, Jefferies, then a group of six tightly bunched riders. Anstey had a 5 second lead by the Metropole and when he reached Ballysally roundabout for the last time, he had extended this to over 9 seconds.
When they reached the chequered flag it was the Kiwi, Bruce Anstey in 1st place, David Jefferies in 2nd and Jess in 3rd .
Bruce Anstey recorded the fastest lap in the race
