Guess what!!!
Stefan Merriman won both the 400cc class and the overall classification in the French mud at round four of the World Enduro Championship.
The weather in Gelles, near Clermont-Ferrand
created wet,
rainy, muddy, conditions and Stefan won by over 30 seconds from the closest rider!!! (Salminen)
While everybody said Salminen would win in the muddy ruts,
Stefan blitzed!!! It all started with the first test when he got 13 seconds
on Salminen, then in the following two tests he crashed but only lost 2 and 3
seconds respectively. Then in the following test Salminen got stuck after
crossing a bridge going up a snotty muddy hill. Stefan had actually caught
up by the end and then Salminen crashed again in the second to last corner,
obviously crumbling under pressure.
Stefan won the 4th test by more than 16
seconds!!!
Salminen caught up on the following test, beating Stefan by 5 seconds, then in the Enduro test Stefan was extremely fast. He seemed to have untold confidence, blasting through the muddy ruts and riding really aggressively. On that test he got 13 seconds on Salminen, a big gap in enduro terms. Mika Ahola beat Anders Eriksson, after Anders ran into similar problems to Salminen - stuck on the snotty, muddy hill in the enduro test.
