Darryl`s Moving Up

Posted: Mon 22 Apr 2002

A press release advises that M J Church Kawasaki rider, Darryl Atkins will be moving up to the 250 class for the remainder of the 2002 season.

The decision was made early this week and the team feels it will be a wise move for the Kiwi rider.

Atkins has suffered throughout the early season with small injuries that have put him out of action for a number of weeks, the main being a back injury after a practice crash which sidelined him for round two of the World Championships last weekend.

Technical Manager, Kiwi, Paul Trevathan said “We spoke with Darryl and with Kawasaki and all felt it would be good for Darryl to change class, he always planned to ride a 250 in the Supercross and Kawasaki were keen for the team to have a 250 ride so it was an easy decision, Darryl has had a tough season so far, and feels he is much better suited to the 250 class, we hope that he will make his British debut at Lyng in Norfolk on Sunday, 21 April [yesterday] and will hopefully be able to compete in Germany in the 250 class next week\".
