Husqvarna rider, Paul Whibley has won the third round of the National Cross Country Championship held on Sunday, 14 April near Paeroa.
Whibley won both the 250 class and the event outright.
After a poor start by Whibley, the lead at the end of the first lap was held by Sean Clarke but Whibley passed the Suzuki rider on the second lap and stayed in front until the finish with over a minutes lead after three hours racing.
Several top riders failed to finish after falls, punctures or broken chains.
Third was the very fast Mark Pollard (KTM).

The course was on typically steep farmland with some difficult rocky sections. While the course was fast, it became rough as the nearly 100 riders completed more laps.

Whibley\'s win follows identical results in the first and second rounds and as a result he leads the Championship.

Whibley is the current NZ Cross Country and Enduro champion.
