Superbike Race 1 Valencia - Bayliss first home - Haga, Bostrom follow.

Troy Bayliss set a time of 1’34.814 for Superpole and looked the favourite for the first race of the 2002 season. That was over a second faster than Troy Corser last season.

Bayliss got away to a good start on the Infostrada Ducati as did Haga (great to see him back) on the Playstation 2 –FGF Aprilia and Bostrom on his L& M Ducati.

Bayliss got out to an early lead and slowly worked in to a 3second plus margin at the finish, Haga and Bostrom fought tooth and nail both sliding around on their favoured Dunlop tyres each trying to make his bike wider than the others. They swapped and re-swapped the 2nd place spot over and over again.

Haga finally managing to hold out Bostrom despite a huge slide that had him backing off the throttle just before the finish.

Honda’s sole entry this year Colin Edwards was never far from the front three and at times right on the back of the 3rd bike. Honda will be encouraged to be right up there and I think these 4 will yield the 2002 champion.

Ducati will be dissappointed not to win manufactuers championship just through sheer weight of numbers, more than half of the bikes on the track are red.
