Conditions were perfect for the 41st running of the New Zealand Grand Prix held at Woodville on the 26th and 27th of January 2002.

The 500cc GP class was won by Yamaha’s Daryll King, with former World Champion Shayne King and Castrol Honda Red Rider Cody Cooper in Second and Third respectively riding Honda CRF450’s.

Castrol Honda Red Rider Peter Broxholme rode both the 250cc and 125cc class convincingly winning the 250cc class and clearly winning the first two 125cc GP races, only to be caught in a tangle of riders on the first lap of the third race, Broxholme rode from the last back to sixth position in the third race to claim 3rd place overall in the 125cc GP.

Honda dealer supported junior riders Aaron Mudgeway (CR80), Jake Boyd (CR125) and Michael Vining (CR125) convincingly took out their respective Junior classes.

Castrol Honda Race team Manager Dave Borlase said “Apart from the awesome display of riding form the Castrol Honda Red Riders and Shayne King the success these Honda dealer supported junior riders enjoyed bodes well for the future of these talented up and coming competitors.
