41st Woodville Grand Prix,

Riding a Yamaha, former Grand Prix contender Darryll King dominated the 41st New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville yesterday.

It was the biggest field ever seen at a motorsport event in New Zealand, with over 700 riders. In hot and dusty conditions Darryll King managed to win the 500cc class and also the prestigious Grand Prix race.

Shayne King (Pro Circuit Honda) grabbed the early lead in all the races with his brother Darryll close behind. The two riders put on an awesome display for the 5.000 spectators near the end of each race. With Darryll passing for the lead and Shayne coming right back at him each time. Each race came down to the final few corners. Shayne won Moto 1 and Darryll Motos 2 and 3. Team Honda rider Cody Cooper placed 3rd equal with Damien King in the overall standings.

\"I had an excellent day, the track was rough and demanding as ever and being able to sit behind Shayne and follow his lines was an advantage,\" said Darryll King.

\"It was great to see so many spectators and young fans throughout the day. After yesterdays races I feel that I am on target for the first Australian Championship round in 6 weeks. I am looking forward to the final round of the New Zealand Supercross Championships this weekend at Taupiri, it is always an excellent event,\" King added.

In the 250cc class Yamaha´s Nigel Smith won race one and placed second in race two. In the final race he needed only a 3rd place to win his first 250cc Championship however he crashed on a slippery left hand corner while in 2nd place. Team Honda rider Peter Broxholme won the class from Smith and Cameron Negus (Suzuki).
