King Clinches Both Aussie Championships

A fractured left wrist could not stop Hamilton-based Darryll King, from winning his first Australian Thumper National Championship in Sydney at the weekend. Needing only seven points to wrap up the Championship, he came out fighting in race one, passing early race leader and fellow Kiwi, Daryl Hurley with 3 laps to go, to take the win and his first Thumpers Nationals title.

\"The series has been fantastic this year and it showed again at the final round with three different race winners throughout the day. It has been a fantastic year for Yamaha with myself winning both the Australian Thumper and Motocross Championships\" said King after the event.

Hurley won race two easily after King stalled his bike early in the race. It took King over 30 seconds to restart his bike, he then fought his way back up to 5th by race end.

Race three saw a frantic battle between the top five riders. King and Anderson raced handlebar to handlebar for most of the race, with neither rider giving an inch. With two laps to go, King tried a wide pass around an uphill section and the two collided, with King going down heavily on his left hand. Anderson went on to win, with King 4th and Hurley 5th.

Also King announced that, Team CDR Boost Yamaha will be setting up a team to race, the New Zealand Motocross and Supercross Championships. The Team will consist of Michael Cotter, Luke Burkhart and himself.

\"This Team is really positive move. Hopefully we can raise the profile of our sport at home.We need to produce more World Champions and hopefully with my experience and knowledge I can help the younger riders make the right decisions on and off the bike, before they head overseas,\" said King from Sydney.

The New Zealand Championships start in four weeks with round one at MOSGIEL near Dunedin.
