A race one crash, at Winton just north of Benalla in Victoria, slows Kawerau motorcycle dealer Tony Rees’ Australian Production Superbike campaign.

The New Zealand Superbike Champion, was running second behind Suzuki’s Shaun Giles, when he slid off in lap 9, taking him out of the result.

Although the Bikebiz Team worked hard on the Yamaha R1, they were not happy that the sidecover had had sufficient time for the repair to dry, so Rees took his No. 2 bike out in race two.
Although too highly geared and about 10 horsepower down on his first machine, Rees rode his No 2 bike into 8th and some valuable points.

Race three saw Rees back on his preferred machine and running with the leaders. After a race long battle with teammate Damien Cudlin, Rees finished fifth, just 0.243 seconds behind his team-mate and 7.986 seconds down on winner Giles.

However despite adversity, Rees advanced to fourth overall in the championship.

Championship standings:

1) Shaun Giles , Suzuki GSXR 1000 , 129 points
2) Damian Cudlin , Yamaha R1 1000 , 89 points
3) Craig Coxhell, Yamaha R1 1000, 75 points
4) Tony Rees, Yamaha R1 1000, 55 points
