Castrol Honda Red Rider Paul Whibley won a rare double over the weekend of 19th/20th May by securing the Cross Country title at the Suzuki National Cross Country Championships held at Pahiatua. He added the Cross Country title to the Enduro title he won two weeks earlier.

Whibley was never seriously challenged for the title, with second place going to Suzuki’s Adam Youren.

In the 0-200cc class, Red Rider Ben Harding won convincingly, taking the title with maximum points. Teammate Peter Broxholme finished second to Harding in the title chase.

Race team manager Dave Borlase said: ‘Paul has gone largely unchallenged in both campaigns and is likely to show the Americans just what a class rider he is when he competes in two rounds of the USA Cross Country championships later this year.’

Borlase was also full of praise for Harding and Broxholme. ‘Signing Ben as a Castrol Honda Red Rider has once again shown that a team with the depth of skill that we have is able to continually achieve top results. 0-200cc class runner-up Peter Broxholme, although only 19 years old, has clearly shown that he will be a force in all disciplines of off-road riding for some considerable time to come.’
