Rees Strikes Trouble at Oran Park

New Zealand’s Superbike ace, Kawerau’s Tony Rees was unable to continue his winning form at Round two of the Australian Formula Xtreme series at Oran Park, southwest of Sydney yesterday.

After qualifying his Bikebiz Yamaha R1 second on Saturday, just .254 seconds behind Queenslander Robbie Baird, Rees went into Sunday confident he was on the pace.

However it was not to be Ree’s day, on the warm up lap for race one his Formula Xtreme spec’d R1 developed an oil leak and had to be retired for the rest of the event. Not to be deterred, Rees raced his Production Superbike R1, which he had won on the previous weekend at Philips Island, for the remaining three races.

At the end of the day, Rees came home with three creditable thirds, on a machine well down in horsepower on the lead bikes. The three thirds made Rees fourth for the day and gave him sufficient points to maintain his third over all in the series.
