Fresh from his championship win in the New Zealand Superbike Class, Kawerau’s Tony Rees is set to exchange his blue Yamaha R1 for a red and black one from his Australian sponsor Bikebiz.
Rees will begin his Australian road race championship campaign next weekend, April 21/22 at the Australian round of the World Superbikes at Philips Island.
Rees will ride a Production Superbike spec’d Yamaha R1 on the 4.45km circuit against the best Australia has to offer.
The field will consist of the likes of Yamaha’s Craig Coxhell and Suzuki’s Shaun Giles, both seen recently in New Zealand at the Oceania meeting at Manfeild.
“Production Superbikes are very similar to our Sports Production, on similarly spec’d bikes, I think we have a good chance of finishing on the podium,” said Rees from Kawerau this week.
