Honda has lifted ATVs to a new level with the launch of the TRX500 Rubicon, initial supplies of which will begin arriving in the country during April.

The Rubicon is Honda’s first 500cc ATV, and also the first Honda ATV to be fitted with fully automatic transmission. Not only that, it has Honda’s first liquid-cooled ATV engine, and the engine is mounted longitudinally in the frame. This allows direct driveshaft alignment between the front and rear wheels for ultimate drivetrain efficiency.

‘The Rubicon is another giant step forward in ATV development by Honda,’ said Clive Cooper-Smith, General Manager of importers Blue Wing Honda Ltd. ‘Its liquid-cooled 499cc OHV engine provides tremendous torque and dependable power, and the Hondamatic transmission is a continuously variable, hydro-mechanical design that eliminates belts altogether. This ATV is quite simply an amazing machine to ride’

Unlike belt-drive systems, the Hondamatic transmission provides true engine braking and a low gear hold, and the full-time four wheel drive system with a unique torque-sensing limited-slip front differential provides superior traction in the most difficult situations.

The Rubicon’s liquid-cooled engine allows for more consistent operating temperatures in extreme conditions, ensuring maximum power output at all times, as well as longer engine life. The Hondamatic transmission is simple to use, compact, and maintenance-free. It uses engine oil as hydraulic fluid, simplifying maintenance and ensuring an adequate oil supply in all operating conditions.

Fully equipped for comfort and operator safety, the Rubicon’s feature list includes safety-designed driver footrests, over-fenders, multi-function LCD instrumentation, waterproof 12 volt/12 amp accessory socket, fuel gauge, snorkel-type air intake system for water crossings, 330 watt AC generator and a 386kg towing capability.

The Rubicon is priced at a recommended retail of $17,500 plus GST.
