Back to Business for Road Racers

Posted: Fri 23 Mar 2001

Fresh from their outing on the Streets of Paeroa, New Zealand’s top road racers return to the business of their National championship.

After eight weeks, they are rearing to go at round three of the Motorcycle Trader & News Championship to be held at Manfeild Autocourse in Feilding next weekend April 1.

All classes will be hotly contested.
In the Superbike class there is a three-way tussle between New Plymouth’s Shaun Harris, Kawerau’s Tony Rees and Christchurch’s Andrew Stroud.

In Formula Two, there is only one point separating Palmerston North’s Dennis Charlett and the hard charging Harris.

Formula Three sees the battle between the four stroke 400cc machine of Andy Bolwell of Oamaru and the 125cc two-stroke factory racer of Foxton’s Jason Easton. Easton also has a clear lead in the 125cc class.

The Sports Production classes, the showcase of today’s production motorcycles, are not quite so close. The Open class, like the Superbike class, is a three-way contest between Stroud, Rees and Wanganui’s Brian Bernard, whereas the 600cc class has a clear leader in the form once again of Shaun Harris.

Exciting racing is expected from the sidecars, which is at present led by Colin Buckley and Darren Abrahams.

Next Sunday April 1 will see some excellent racing at Manfeild Autocourse when the championship chase begins again
