Rees off to World Superbike Round in Australia

New Zealand Sports Production Champion, motorcycle racer Tony Rees, is set to ride at the Australian round of the World Superbikes at Phillips Island on April 21/22, unfortunately not in the premier class.

Rees has signed to campaign a Yamaha R1 for his Australian sponsor BikeBiz in the Production Superbike Class in the upcoming Australian Road Race Championship. This will include running in the support races to the World Superbikes.

The class consists of lightly modified production motorcycles, very similar in specification to the New Zealand Open Sport Production machine; Rees raced so successfully at Paeroa earlier this month.

The field will consist of the likes of Craig Coxhell and Robbie Baird from Radar Team Yamaha along with Shaun Giles from Team Suzuki.

“I have raced against most of these guys and on similar machinery I believe we can be competitive,” said Rees from Kawerau this week.
