The Castrol Honda Red Riders had a successful day at the North Island MotoCross championships at Wanganui on 11th March.

Cody Cooper was Castrol Honda’s only representative in the 125cc class, as Peter Broxholme was suffering from a virus and didn’t ride. Cody finished third behind Australian-based Suzuki works rider Darryl Hurley and Ben Harding on a KTM. All the riders struggled increasingly as the condition of the track deteriorated as the day went on.

Castrol Honda’s Stacey Oldeman finished second behind Darryl Hurley in the 250cc class. Hard-charging Paul Whibley, fresh from a win the previous day in the final round of the Belray Cross Country series, was third.

Richard (Dic Dog) Adamson on the HRC XR650 won the North Island 500 Moto title with a spectacular display of riding despite the very difficult conditions. The title was keenly contested by both Mitch Rowe on a KTM and Palmerston North’s James Robinson on a Suzuki.

Race team manager Dave Borlase said: ‘Despite mixed fortunes in the 125 and 250 classes, we are very happy with our progress towards the Nationals.’
