Next weekend (March 11) will see Kawerau’s Tony Rees rejoin the fray on the streets of Paeroa, for the third and final round of the “Battle of the Streets” motorcycle series.
Rees chose not to compete in the second round at Gisborne over the New Year, leaving the way clear for other riders to consolidate their “Battle of the Streets” positions.
Having used the time, since round two of the National championship at Ruapuna in late January, to freshen up his two Yamaha R1s. Rees will reappear at Paeroa with, fully rebuilt and freshly painted machines, sporting logos of his new sponsor “PROTECTA Insurance”.
Rees, recently returned from round one of the Australian Formula Xtreme Series in Sydney in which he lies third overall, is keen to get back out on the streets of Paeroa, which he considers his own.
“I really enjoy racing at Paeroa and have had some of my career successes there, hopefully next weekend will be no different,” said Rees from Kawerau this week.
