Castrol Honda riders to the fore at Patetonga

Despite extensive work by the local club on resurfacing the track, the senior section of the Valley Championships on 11th February had to run to a shortened programme due to the atrociously wet conditions. The Castrol Honda team entered a full complement of riders competing in all classes.

In the 125cc class Peter Broxholme and Cody Cooper were dominant. Peter rode measured races to finish first overall with Cody second. Cody displayed a pace in the first race which left the rest of the field well behind him. However a high speed crash in the second race saw him rejoin at the back of the field but he still scored sufficient points to take second place overall for the day. In the ‘dash for cash’ knockout event Cody finished a close second to international rider Darryl King, riding a YZ250 for his new Yamaha team.

In the 250cc class Paul Whibley turned in a 6th place finish which team manager Dave Borlase said was more than acceptable given the effort he put in to achieve his stunning second place at the Australian 4 day enduro last weekend.. Fellow 250 rider Stacey Oldeman crashed early in the first race and aggravated a thumb injury incurred earlier in the season, forcing him to sit out the rest of the day.

Richard Adamson won the 500 Moto title, showing a continuing improvement in form as Blue Wing Honda further develops the XR650. Castrol Honda race team manager Dave Borlase said: ‘Given the outstanding performance we are achieving with the XR650 and Richard’s ability to get the most out of the bike, we have made a decision to put Richard on a full-spec HRC XR650, which tuning guru Bryan Davison is currently building.’ Richard will debut the new bike at the King of the Caves meeting on 24th -- 25th February. ‘We are looking forward to ‘Dick Dog’ giving the crowds some thrilling entertainment on a machine that will really compliment his riding style’, said Mr. Borlase.
