CASTROL HONDA CBR600 WINS ON DEBUT

Oamaru’s Brad Selfe took his fuel injected Castrol Honda CBR600 to its world debut win in the first of the Formula Two races on Sunday, at round one of the National Championships at Teretonga outside Invercargill.

Selfe took the win from Dennis Charlett and Mark Whyte both on Suzuki 600s.

Selfe then took the same machine, now in Sports Production trim, to second place behind Shaun Harris on his Suzuki in the first of the 600 Sports Production race with Charlett taking third.

Unfortunately while running with the front runners in the second Formula Two race on approaching Castrol bend, Selfe was forced to take evasive action when a proceeding rider pulled on his brakes early, sending Selfe and his machine into the kitty litter.

Although after some cleaning up the CBR was ready to race, Selfe had twisted his shoulder and was advised to sit out the rest of the day until it could be X-rayed.

“I’m disappointed not to have finished today, as we started but there is a lot of racing to come yet,” said Selfe on Sunday.

Despite only contesting two of his possible four races, Selfe is second equal in the Formula Two class and fifth in 600 Sports Production.
