Although his day at Teretonga (Round One of the National Championships) was not perfect, Kawerau’s Tony Rees is more than happy with his three wins and a second from four starts and the lead in the two Big Bike championships.

Rees riding his pair of Yamaha R1’s, won both of his Open Sports Production race comfortably from Andrew Stroud on his Suzuki 1000 and Dave Cole on his Ducati.

In the Superbike class, Rees took out the first race from defending champion Dean Fulton on his Kawasaki, with Shaun Harris taking third. In race two, Harris on his Suzuki, got the better of the start and after chasing him for a while, Rees decided to conserve his machinery and rode for the points and second place, third was Fulton.

“Shaun got an excellent start and would have been very hard to catch, so with this being round one, second and the points were fine by me,” said Rees after the race.

Rees moves into round two at Christchurch next weekend win a 10-point lead in the Open Sports Production championship and a 4-point lead in the Superbikes.
