A Slight change of Plan

Aaron Slight has had little joy in finding a ride for World Superbikes this year and is considering a drive on 4 wheels in this years British Touring Car Championship.

Slight has had talks with Benelli and NCR Ducati but Benelli is almost certain to go with Peter Goddard, once the Benelli Tornado has completed homologation by FIM inspectors. They are expected to carry out the process by the end of the month to allow the Benelli to race in this years WSBK series.

The process involves the FIM checking every detail from chassis layout to the silhouette of the fairing. Once these measurements have been taken the bike must keep the submitted dimensions.

NCR Ducati has opted for Giovanni Bussei and Australia youngster Brock Parkes.

This means Slight has no rides that are worthwhile to go with since his Castrol Honda team opted to drop him for Tadayuki Okada at the end of last season.

Slight who had ridden the series for 11 years was quoted as saying : \"I have been left in a position that I don\'t think I should have been at this stage in my career. \"Of the teams I have spoken to recently, most have said I will have to bring my own money just to secure the ride and there is no way I am going to do that. \"As it stands bikes are looking very unlikely and I have turned my attention to trying to sort out a car drive.\"

Slight whom finished eighth last year (his first time outside the top four since 1992) after missing the first three rounds, due to his surgery added \"I\'m not bitter, but I am upset at the way things have turned out. I just hope that I can sort something out with the cars because I am not ready to quit racing altogether.\"

Slight, who has two seconds and four third place series finishes to his name, but no world title, added: \"Since I had the operation I have felt so much better and my fitness is improving all the time. I feel I owe it to myself to carry on racing as I still have a lot left to prove.\"
