Extreme Air February 23-25 2000

Posted: Fri 19 Jan 2001

FMX Legends confirmed.

If your idea of extreme air is freestyle moto-x legends such as crusty demons of dirt and X-Games silver medallist Tommy Clowers and crusty demons Mad Mike Jones flying 100 feet through the air pulling a fully extended Superman or huge whip then read on.

A host of international riders, likely to include Mike and Tommy, will be strutting their stuff against New Zealands best including young up and comer and Split team rider Luke Wara from Paraparam at Vodafone Xtreme Air, the annual extreme games in Hamilton.

The 2000 event came down to a battle between Tommy Clowers and Australian Import Troy Carroll. Carroll pulled out all the stops for the showdown to pip Clowers by just a few points with his amazing Indian Air move.

Vodafone Xtreme Air is New Zealands version of the American X-Games and will run over a three day period from the 23rd to 25th of Feb. The event features a range of sports from skating, Stunt BMX and wakeboarding to trials and the 200 event show stopper, The freestyle motocross.

Tommy has done it all and just about won it all as well. Renowned for his fat air and clean foot tricks Tommy has featured in countless FMX videos including many of the Crusty Demons of dirt flicks, he has also won a host of events around the world. When it comes to FMX Tommy is the man.

However Tommy won\'t have it all his own way at Xtreme Air with his good friend and RedBull team mate Mike Jones and Aussie star Troy Carrol (who beat him at Xtreme Air phase 2 earlier this year) both keen to front up. Based on his current form Tommy will go into the 2001 event as favourite particularly after his silver medal performance behind Travis Pastrana at the American X-games and his strong results in all of the competitions in the states this year.

Vodafone Xtreme is going to be held at the Waikato Events Centre, Claudelands, Hamilton with a practice day on Friday the 23rd and competition day on Saturday the 24th February. Entry for Friday costs $5 at the Gate and Saturday is $20 for all 10 hours of sports and all live music. Tickets for Saturday can be purchased from Ticketec from early January.

Event organisers are promising a BIG course with plenty of variation allowing the riders to pick their own unique lines to try and impress the judges.
