Les Welch at the 4 Day

The lines are now being drawn in the sand for the encounter in February at Oparau where the Kiwi enduro riders will enjoy terrain type that is familiar to them when they clash with the Australian contingent in the A4DE. Among the interesting entries is an Australian composite team which includes Kiwi, Les Walch, who got back into the sport in May 2000, when working in Kalgoorlie and as a member of the WA team rode the 2000 A4DE with their 3rd best result.

The sand gropers proved a friendly and helpful bunch and the event provided the ex-pat Kiwi with some great memories but the extra distance from WA has precluded a full State team making the trip, thus the composite team has been formed, to be looked after by David Holt of South Australia.

Les has plans to fulfill a dream and compete in the 2001 ISDE to be staged in Brive la Gallarde, France, starting on 27th August. He intends to rent a bike for that event, preferably a KTM300exc, as the 300 exc he has ridden since getting back into the sport in May 2000 has provided bullet proof reliability with great user friendly power and the suspension to match.
