Biaggi's Yamaha tests quick

With Yamaha out of the Superbikes for 2001, they are only going to have the 500cc GP class to impress in.

Testing at the Malaysia circuit at Sepang Max Biaggi has set out to serve warning to the other teams.

Biaggi cut 1.4 seconds off the existing track record, and was 6/10\'s of a second inside the fastest time of current World Champ Kenny Roberts Jnr. When he set pole at last April\'s Malaysian GP.

These times were all the more impressive since it was not just one lap but a series of consistant laps, and on Biaggi\'s Number two Marlboro Yamaha, after a fall in the morning tests that badly damaged his first bike, and in scorching temperatures.

Biaggi said later, \"It\'s always good when you\'re fast and my lap times show that we now have a very good combination, I fell on my first lap on new tires and lost an hour while we got my second bike prepared. I knew I could go quick because we\'ve done some good work over the past few days, it was just a case of putting everything together and pushing hard.\"

Biaggi and Checa are continuing to test tyres and settings over the next few days, all of which look like they will bring the fans some excitement in 2001.
