Featherston’s Corrie Sargent successfully defended his National 500cc Motocross title today at Taupo, finishing the 12 race Championship, 59 points clear of his nearest rival.
The second round of the Championship was run, in fine but windy conditions on the Taupo Motorcycle Club’s purpose-built track.
Sargent riding the Maidstone Yamaha YZ426 was unable to make it a clean sweep, coming second to local rider Jason Satchwell in one race yesterday (Saturday 18/11/00).
“However eleven out of twelve isn’t bad, I’m rapt,” said Sargent.

Corrie Sargent of Featherston first on 231 points
Bryan Patterson of Rotoroa second on 172 points
Bryan Heaphy of Nelson third on 157 points
Jason Satchwell of Taupo fourth on 153 points
