Featherston’s Corrie Sargent scored six wins from six races in the 500cc Class, at Round One of the 2000 Motocross Championship last week at Carterton and moves on to the Final Round this weekend at Taupo, with a commanding 40 point lead.
Sargent riding the Maidstone Yamaha YZ426 leads from veteran rider Bryan Patterson (returning to top class racing after a number of years) of Rotoroa, on 80 points. Third was Bryan Heaphy of Nelson on 77 points.
The sandy, purpose-built Taupo Club track has been used for major events in the past not like the virgin farmland of last weekend.
This may or may not be an advantage to some riders.
“I have competed at Taupo before, so I’m looking forward to this weekend,” said Sargent.
