Rees Lies in Wait for Aussies

Kawerau’s Tony Rees is looking forward to next weekend’s Formula Xtreme Trans Tasman Challenge at Pukekohe.

It will be Rees first opportunity to complete, against the likes of Kevin Curtain (Radar Team Yamaha Australia’s Top Rider), on his home turf as it were.

Rees finished third behind Curtain and Honda rider Shannon Johnson in this year’s five round Yamaha Tri-state Formula Xtreme Series in Australia.

“I’m looking forward to having the upper hand in track knowledge over Kevin, but he learns tracks really quickly. Pukekohe is very fast, so the racing should be excellent,” says Rees

Rees will be riding his modified 2000 model Yamaha R1, which will become his New Zealand Championship Supebike class mount, for the rest of our domestic season.

Rees will loan his Sports Production R1 to 4-Hour partner Paul Gee to ride in the Formula Xtreme race at Pukekohe on the weekend.

Fellow New Zealander Johnny Hepburn, who also competed in all the Australian Series finishing fifth overall, will miss Pukekohe, due to a broken ankle sustained in an accident at the recent 4-Hour at Manfeild.
