Red Knights MCC (Northland)

Local chapters raise monies to to be donated to Hospital Burns Unit to aid children injured by fire, or aid fellow fire-fighters who may have suffered the misfortune of being a victim of a fire.

We here in New Zealand are the first chapter formed outside of North America and have a very close relationship with the Chapters from both Canada and the United States of America.

Membership is open to all fire-fighters, Active or Retired, who have a access to a motorcycle and hold a current motorcycle licence. Spouses members children , boy/girlfriends are also welcome for membership as Social Members.

At present a minimum of seven fire-fighters are required to form a new chapter, and there are Members at Large.

The club was formed in 1982 by Ed Wright a fire-fighter from Northboro Massachusetts, who got a few friends together and formed the club Red Knights International Fire-fighters Motorcycle club. It has since grown to all states in the USA and several provinces of Canada and now New Zealand with several members at large around the world.

Northland 1 New Zealand was formed in 2001 just before the World Trade Centre terrorist attack, which brought the Club even closer as a family throughout the world. We have two rides every month with weekends away on occasion.

Our membership started with 12 members in 2001 and has now grown to 40 members both Active, retired and social members. We enjoy each others company and going on rides, we observe the road rules and drive with safety first. The club rides as a group and we look after each other.

Our aim at present is to raise money to aid the children at the only Burns Unit in this country situated at Middlemore Hospital Auckland.
