DESCRIPTION
The KNOX Long Way Around is back in November 2026 with an exciting route planned, & a fabulous lodge booked for us all to spend Saturday night! This adventure ride event is a GPS navigated adventure ride, taking riders approximately 700km in 2 days, the long way around Lake Taupo and beyond, including offshoots onto private farmland and forestry roads and tracks you may never have had the opportunity to explore before.
On both days, the main route will be made up of a real mix of winding back country roads, gravel roads, and reasonably well formed off-road tracks through farms & forestry. Riders taking the challenge sections may expect steeper tracks and slippery areas and will be more of a challenge if wet!
On the Saturday night riders will be welcomed at a private lodge for the night to relax at the bar and enjoy a delicious dinner. A social evening where everyone can share their stories , and some lucky prizes will be given out. Sunday morning starts with a hearty breakfast before setting off on day 2 of the adventure, which is slightly shorter than Saturdays route, to allow riders to get back into Taupo at a reasonable hour in the afternoon! The Long Way Around is suitable for road registered dual purpose motorcycles, from the 250’s to the 1200’s.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The KNOX Long Way Around will take you on a journey through spectacularly scenic areas you may not have ridden before. Bring your camera! Depending on the weather, there may be small sections that will require a moderate level of off road rider skills, and we recommend bikes are fitted with adventure tyres. These sections may include short steeper inclines and declines, rutted areas, slippery/muddy terrain and stream crossings. There will also be optional challenge sections suitable for the competent off-road rider on enduro style bikes. Fuel stops & cafes along the route have been alerted so they will be well stocked with great food and good coffee during the days ride.
ROUTE NAVIGATION
We advise groups riding together should have at least two riders with GPS (in case one gets momentarily lost). Riders must navigate the route using a GPS, this ride is no longer navigated using roll charts. It is important that at least one rider in your group is competent at using this form of navigation. Moto Mapped staff riders will be on route to guide and give assistance where needed.

REGISTRATION MEET & GREET:
Registration Friday 6th November from 6.00pm onwards with briefing 8.00pm at The Fox and Hounds in Taupo. This is a great pre-ride chance for everyone to have a catch-up and a chinwag, and ensure you are all prepared to get away early the following morning without any hitches. This will include a pre-ride briefing, where all riders must sign-on, and collect your ride packs, stickers, and The Long Way Around Tees.
Then it’s all go Saturday morning to head out and start your adventure. After a full day of fun we all meet again at a private lodge in National Park to spend the night. On Sunday after day 2 of the adventure, riders will arrive back in Taupo in the afternoon. The Moto Mapped van will be available to carry bags you do not wish to take with you on your bike.
